Tessier

Tessier has been committed to breeding quality Silky Terriers for over 30 years. We strive to produce healthy, happy dogs that look and act like the breed.

This is our first Grand Champion, Becky.

Not to be outdone, Becky’s father quickly followed his daughter’s Grand. Here is GCh. Carwyn Tessier By Innovation taking a Veteran Group 4 at the 2014 Eukanuba  National Championship.

The Silky Terrier is cheerful, sassy and  sturdy, with a lovely blue, tan and fawn coat. A bath and a brush once a week — that’s relatively easy care for a long-coated small dog. Highly hypoallergenic, but not great with small children as a general rule,  a Silky is bright, happy and independent.

Tessier occasionally has puppies available and we sometimes offer young adults for sale as well. If you are interested, please email Sandy at smesmer@yahoo.com, or call Billie at 727-365-1353. We are located in Clearwater, Florida. For lots and lots of data on small dogs in general, you can go to www.about-small-dogs.com.

Male or Female? You Decide.

Many people contacting me for puppies only want one gender or the other. Their previous dog was a female and so they want another one just like her. Or they have heard that boys can be, well, dirty. Male and female Silkys can both make excellent pets. My rule of thumb, developed over the last 30 years, is the following: Girls want to be loved, boys will want to love you. As to the potty training issue: I have found that the potty training issue really comes down to owner consistency right from the start, and while some are harder to train than othan others, this is not based on gender.

Young Adults Available

Very often people only want a puppy. There’s certainly nothing wrong with this, if one has the time and expertize available to devote to the necessary training. However as a show kennel we sometimes have young adults available as well. These are home raised, well trained and socialized dogs whom we started to show or champions we are retiring with a spay/neuter contract. Such young adults can be a real find as they are ready to go with relatively little effort. They are no more expensive, and sometimes even less than a puppy. Silkys are generally long-lived dogs, most of ours’ live to between 14 and 17 years. Young adults also bond extremely well in their new couch potato environment as they are thrilled to have a whole family of humans all to themselves.

    Hi Ms. Tessier,

I was given your name by another dog breeder in Boca Raton Mrs. Barbara Silverman. I am in hopes of adopting a silky terrier. I currently have one that my friends purchased me after a divorce and my son going off to college. It was just what I needed! I didn/t know I could love something as much. I tell my son he and his sister are running a close race. Bella is 3 years old now. She is absolutely beautiful! She has the prettiest round face and almost weighs in at 5 pounds as of Saturday. She is very low to the ground and I am looking for her a friend to play with her. I tear up each time I leave her and that is only for work, which we live where I work. I have been in property management since gratuating college. So I get to see her every afternoon and if their is a need to work late we bring her toy and she plays in my office. I feel that she is going through seperation anxiety because I take her everywhere I go except for work during office hours. I wanted to try and adopt this time due to their prices and a son in college, but am finding a hard time. I l believe I have been on every website available to adopt and left my name and email. It may be that adopting is not in the cards for me, but the only way I would be able to afford one at this time is my making payments on one and I am sure that has never been heard of. Bella is in my lap now as I am typing and sleeps as close as she can get to me each night, I know you are very busy and get many request for your beautiful siliky’s, so getting back to me may take a while. I am only interested in a girl. Bella was speade as soon as she became of the right age and is actually chipped twice. That is another story, but at least I hope to never loose her and should it happen i have two different organizations I pay to make sure she is found. I could type for ever about her and what I am in hopes of finding as a new playmate for her, but am sure you have many emails to read. I thank you in advance for reading mine and will appreciate any help you can give me on what I should do.
    Thank you,
    Pamela F. Brown

    Hi Sandy,
Would like to visit your pups in Clearwater while I am here in Tampa. Please provide a time that’s convenient and your address. Is Timmy still available? Saw his picture on the website Tessier. He is older at 5 and has a shorter coat. We just cannot come this Tuesday.
    Fondly ,
    Mona

  5. Samantha Parker says:

Just a note to you Sandy: We want to thank you for our darling “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” (Max, Maxie, Little Man, Darling Boy, etc) He has been the sweetest boy. He’ll be 15 on 11/28/21 and he’s still going strong!! Thank you for being a responsible, caring breeder…that’s why he’s doing so well at 14 1/2. Other than some teeth issues, and once for a torn out claw, he’s never had to go to the vet for anything other than check-ups and vaccinations. We love him so much! Thank you!
